As the holidays approached the reality of losses loomed large for Hancock County families. In addition to losing homes and possessions, most of HMC’s several hundred staff members and families lamented the loss of Christmas ornaments, keepsakes and traditions. “While the necessity and routine of job/home/responsibilities kept everyone moving forward,” said HMC Foundation President Cindy Knoblock, “the sadness started to creep in as Christmas approached.”
Enter The Hartwell Foundation again, as a second gift provided “instant Christmas” complete with holiday decorations, music, delectable party food and mountains of toys for all ages. Hundreds of children waited in line to enter the toy-filled cafeteria…transformed into Santa’s workshop for a day.
